Title: “Guoguang Goddess” Karen Huang Disappears for a Year! Recent Situation Exposed: Stunning Appearance in Rotterdam, “Bringing Honor to the Country”

Reporter Chen Ying / Taipei Report

“Karen Huang, the ‘Guoguang Goddess,’ was found in August 2022 to have previously posted about finding people to work in Cambodia, sparking suspicions of involvement in fraud and human trafficking groups. In response, she denied the allegations, clarifying that she was assisting a friend’s sister in Phnom Penh and had no connection to fraud. She disappeared for over a year, only to emerge participating in international film festivals, bringing honor to the country.

Karen Huang appeared in “Plato vs Pasolini” and “Ghosts just want to have fun”, joining nearly 40 actors at the Rotterdam Film Festival. She expressed her happiness, saying, “Actors participating in the director’s works this time came from Taiwan, Hong Kong, China, Singapore, Australia, and Germany. It’s rare for us to gather like this. We lived together, ate together, sent movie postcards together, and answered questions after the screening together. There was so much togetherness, and the bond is truly different.” Karen Huang recently filmed a music video with Li Qianna and hopes to participate in suitable projects in the future. Director Scud said she kept sending photos asking for help choosing dresses before leaving, and indeed she made several stunning appearances at the festival.

Director Scud was invited to participate in the 2024 Rotterdam Film Festival’s “Focus Filmmakers” section, where all 10 of his films were screened; he unprecedentedly gathered 37 actors who had appeared in his works to Rotterdam. Actors who hadn’t seen each other for a long time reunited, and Adonis He celebrated his 35th birthday there, with everyone joining in the celebration. Hong Kong star Amanda Lee, who released albums in Taiwan, is still active in the entertainment industry and expressed her desire to develop in Taiwan! Eric East has settled in Los Angeles, working in finance and translation outside of the limelight. Taiwanese beauties Huang Karen Huang and Lina Tsai appeared in sexy dresses one after another, not only attracting attention at the venue for group photos but also receiving direct shouts of “Welcome to Taiwan” from the DJ at the nightclub!

Lina Tsai has been dancing since elementary school and used to be a nightclub dancer. This time, she dressed gorgeously and attracted attention whether at the venue or on the street, even being asked for photos. In the evening, she and another Taiwanese actor, Huang Wei kai, showed off their dance charm at a local nightclub, attracting cheers from the audience. The DJ enthusiastically played songs by Jolin Tsai and repeatedly broadcasted welcomes to the Taiwanese group, and finally, the entire venue was given free drinks! In addition to working in hair removal, Lina Tsai recently signed with an agent and hopes to continue acting in films or participating in advertisements. She heard that Director Scud might retire, but she believes as long as the director continues to do what he loves, retirement doesn’t matter, and health and happiness are the most important.

Amanda Lee watched her old friend Director Scud bring all his films onto the international stage and said happily, “Filmmaking is a career where you have to solve many difficulties every minute. He has made these ten films, successfully conquering film festivals and audiences. I’m really happy for him!” Scud said this wasn’t their first time going to international film festivals together, “We received the Art Achievement Award together in Philadelphia.”

Amanda Lee was once a popular and bestselling singer, releasing 18 albums, including the Mandarin album “Singing on the Roof.” She is still active in the film and music industry, continuing to make movies and perform after the pandemic, serving as a judge on singing competition shows and holding her own painting exhibition. She, who has always been concerned about entertainment news in Taiwan, expressed her desire to develop in Taiwan, willing to try filming movies or music works; she immediately agreed to cooperate with Taiwanese producer Liu Xiangqi on future projects in Taiwan.

Scud sighed, “Have you noticed that since the fourth film ‘Love actually…sucks!,’ I haven’t had any films screened at the Hong Kong International Film Festival? Even though Zhang Shuping helped with editing and color correction, Qiu Litao was the cinematographer, Yu Jiayan did the costume design (though there was obviously less to do), and Yu Yiyao did the music, none of them did it. In the subsequent films, I may not give it to them (out of anger). Anyway, they all premiered abroad, and my films continue to be the only representative of Hong Kong at international film festivals (referring to mainstream festivals, not LGBTQ+ festivals). A good example is the sixth film ‘Utopians’ premiered at Palm Springs International Film Festival. When I looked at the film list, there were only three Mandarin films, the other two being ‘Nie Yinniang’ and ‘Mountains May Depart,’ one each from China, Hong Kong, and Taiwan.”

Scud especially cherishes the actors. He said that since the fourth film, his films haven’t been taken seriously at Taiwan film festivals, so he brought all the actors to the stage of the Rotterdam Film Festival. “At this moment, I can only take them to a truly cinematic and film-loving big stage.” His new works “Plato vs Pasolini” and “Ghosts just want to have fun” are scheduled to be released in Taiwan in mid-2024.
